Wedding photography at Point-no-Point

Point no Point resort is one of nice stops from Sooke to port Renfrew. I enjoy that place for variety of occasions. Weddings are always small to midsized, which is easy to handle in a place like that. Also smaller wedding party helps preserve the intimate atmosphere of the event and the location.

I do have a few spots I really like there for wedding photography, I am going to share a few to give you an idea of the possibilities there.

If tide and weather permits, wedding ceremony can be held right on the beach. During this wedding we were going hide out from a light drizzle in a boat house, but our brave bride, Tanya, decided to go for the beach option what ever the weather.
There is a boat house, which is great for a rainy day or for some shots featuring some of the maritime accessories.

I like using it for group shots and some textures.

Following ceremony and some group shots by the boat house I like to wonder off into the woods and get some nice photographs of the couple in the magical forest on the way to actual Point.

Next, of course we make our way to the famous Red Bridge. Great job on the part of the caretakers to create such a great photo opportunity.

There are lots more shots, of course on the beach, rocks, driftwood, possibilities are endless. I will keep a few secrets and surprises for next time.

Spring elopement at Sooke Harbour House

Peter and Marian picked a perfect day and a perfect place for their elopement this spring. In between a few rainy days we had just a long enough window for some spectacular days and these guys were lucky enough to get one of those days. ( Congratulations again to you guys, you were a pleasure to work with, I really enjoyed my time photographing your wedding!)

Had an opportunity to shoot an event which does not fit in my typical wedding photography portfolio, but this was a chance to try different things with available light and instead of focusing of crisp images typical to wedding photography, I decided to really let loose with those slow shutter speeds and capture motion. After all dance is a motion and to interpret that in a still image is a challenge. I have picked a handful of images that work together as a sequence and I think they do show the dance and the dynamics behind it as well as emotion. Well, I think they do, what do you think? Your comments are welcome!

Abigail’s Hotel Victoria, wedding

First of the season it was a pleasure to attend this intimate ceremony at Abigail’s hotel in Victoria. Christine and Jose, it’s been a pleasure! Abigail’s once again reminded me what a fabulous wedding location it is. Even though we didn’t go to usual Victoria sites, we didn’t miss much. Lots of spring colour and overcast skies were a nice combination for soft images.

United Colours of Weddings

Some weddings just have so much colour, whether it’s the dresses or flowers or locations or both. It is so much fun to photograph an event that is full of colour. Colour is a matter of preference, that’s why I find most people are drawn to black and white photos or at least easily appreciate them. It is the lack of colour that draws us to the subject itself and then to textures and light and shadows. Other times we enjoy the explosion of colour.

Here is a wedding that did not lack colour in any way.

The location was just outside of Langley, BC. Yes, not Victoria, I do get out of the Island now and then. It is a fun change of scenery and you do tend to be more alert since you have to come up with something on the spot in an unfamiliar location, it is like playing music, like improvising in a sense. I find the results always surprise me with a fresh angle.

If you are looking for ideas for your wedding locations, you don’t have to pick exactly the ones everybody goes to, make it personal, reflecting your interests, your personalities. It is more fun for both of us that way.

Perfect day, a little challenging in terms of lighting conditions, lots of mixed light, but well worth it. The families and the bride and groom were just the most wonderful people to deal with and to work with.

Period Style Wedding Dress

This was a very beautiful and unusual event, I feel very privileged to have been given a chance to capture this particular wedding.

The wedding location was a heritage farm with a gorgeous little farm house, old orchard and some outbuildings which were a perfect backdrop for this wedding.

Not only the bride’s dress but also the groom and the groomsmen, their shirts, hats, and other props made it look like you had entered a different era.
